I have always been interested in learning about the outdoors. My true fascination began with my first field guide. Each time I came home from a trip or a walk, I looked up any natural species that I couldn't identify. Now, with a bookcase full of field guides, I have discovered that there is always more to learn about how the environment works. My environmental education (EE) experience began in 2001 while working in camps, developing a handful of nature classes.

2005 - Worked as a staff member at a Nature's Classroom facility in Ft. Payne, AL

2006-2007 - Began to develop an EE framework while running a camp in Brookneal, VA

2008-2009 - Developed an EE program at Caraway Camp and Conference Center near Asheboro, NC

2009-2011 - Wrote a new EE program while developing a camp in Statesville, NC and taught a semester of Earth/Environmental Science to high schoolers at a local private school

2011-2012 - Revamped my EE model and started operating it while working for a camp in Kannapolis, NC

2012-2013 - Began to rewrite curriculum for the Common Core Standards while preparing to go out on my own

2013 - Continued to redevelop the program and formed The TREEE Program LLC

The TREEE Program now hosts students in multiple locations across central North Carolina.

Hickory Cove Location

Staff members of Hickory Cove Camp serve as instructors for The TREEE Program when schools schedule to have their day hosted at Hickory Cove. Many of them have connections to schools in the local area, so you may find a familiar face waiting to greet you!

All Instructors

Instructors that teach classes offered by The TREEE Program at our locations are trained in the implementation of the curriculum. Each has a background of working with children of various ages and/or experience in the field of outdoor education.

Instructors at the

Outdoor Education Center Location in Mooresville

Instructors working for the Iredell Recreation Department serve as instructors for The TREEE Program when schools schedule to have their trip hosted at the Outdoor Education Center. Many of them have facilitated groups of all ages through a variety of programs in this location.
